The Washington Animal Rescue League is an animal protection group like no other. Its newly renovated facility incorporates the best design concepts from shelters around the world and takes them a step further to set a new global standard for the humane care of homeless and abused animals. Every detail of the dog dens, cat condos, and puppy pads was designed from the animals’ point of view to promote healing and maximally enhance the animals’ physical and emotional wellbeing as they recover from past traumas and await adoption. The renovation also expanded the capacity of the shelter. It now comfortably houses up to 350 animals and is one of the largest shelters on the East Coast. The League’s full-service Medical Center has been enlarged and renovated, too. It still provides affordable veterinary care for shelter animals and the pets of low-income guardians.

yudu has donated specifically to the LOVE FUND

The Love Fund provides medical care for seriously sick and injured animals.  Some of these are shelter animals.  Others are the pets of low-income guardians who cannot afford the cost of major veterinary treatments.  Without the help of the Love Fund, these caring guardians would have no other choice but to surrender their sick or injured companion to a shelter for euthanasia.  Each year the fund assists hundreds of animals suffering from fractures, infectious diseases, gunshot wounds and other life-threatening conditions.

LOVE FUND SUCCESS STORY
Carmen: A Sweetheart Despite Beatings

Carmen is a four-month-old German Shepherd puppy who came to us through the ShARE program. He was seized by the Animal Control office of one of our partner organizations after enduring severe beatings at the hands of his guardian (who is currently being prosecuted).

Carmen arrived suffering from head trauma, eye hemorrhages, neck bruises and a severely fractured left femur. We immediately took x-rays and stabilized his condition, then sent him to a specialist to have the fracture repaired. Despite everyone's best efforts, the leg was irreparable, and we were forced to amputate it in order to give him better and less painful mobility.

With his other beating injuries healing nicely, Carmen will soon be ready for a loving new home. Incredibly, throughout his ordeal - even on the day he arrived in such bad condition - Carmen has been a happy, tail-wagging companion.

Carmen's specialized medical care alone was valued at over $7,000.

Given the horrific environment that Carmen was exposed to almost from the moment he was born, this little guy deserved the very best we could offer and we will find him the best home we can!
